When I posted my latest ramblings about things I’ve watched and read in the last little while, I had no idea that the very next day, there’d be yet another story, about yet another school shooting in the U.S.
If I’d had some way of knowing, I sure as heck would not have included my review of the Laurie R. King book, Lockdown, which is a fictional account of an attack on an elementary school.
I read coverage tonight of the attack in Nashville, at the Covenant Private Christian School. One of the news-sites, the New York Times, included video from a security camera that captured the shooter’s entrance to the school. They shot their way through two plate glass doors, then casually ducked under the crash bar.
What struck me about the shooter, as viewed through the security camera, was how simply ordinary they appeared, even though they were intent, for whatever reason, on deadly evil.
This person had, in the last few days, legally purchased 7 guns, 3 of which they used in the assault that led to the death of 6 people at this school.
Here are photos of 5 of the 6 who died. The 6th, William Kinney, was 9 years old. Hallie Scruggs and Evelyn Dieckhaus were also just 9 years old.
