In another part of my life I have been meeting police officers.
I am meeting them in a good way, and that’s a story for another day.
I pay more attention now, when this happens.
Another Canadian police officer was killed today, while doing her job.
That’s nine this year, I think. In Canada.
I think of the officers I’ve met, and the ones I will meet soon, and the thousands of others, who went to work today, and heard news about another of their colleagues.
What is it like, for these women and men, to have to think about this?
This is Sergeant Maureen Breau, of the Sûreté du Québec. She is survived by her partner, who is also an officer with Quebec’s Provincial Police, and by two daughters.
